Zolder 24h – 2nd place despite gearbox problems

The 32nd edition of the Zolder 24 Hours was held last weekend. Bruno Vermeeren took part in this race for the second time in his career. Together with Peter Van Audenhove/Jurgen Van Hover and Tom Langeberg he raced a Speedlover Porsche 996 GT3 Cup car.

Jürgen Van Hover qualified the car in first position within the GTC class with a 1:42.509 lap time, good enough to conquer 13th place in the overall ranking.

Bruno Vermeeren: “The start was great. I kept our first position and in order to preserve the car we drove laps of 1:45. First Motorsport took the lead but thanks to a safety car situation I was able to rejoin the leader. After this I did all I could to conquer the lead again and handed over to Jürgen in 1st position. He was able to preserve this position during his stint.”

Bruno Vermeeren: “At that moment we drove in 8th position in the overall ranking. Peter Van Audenhove kept the lead in GTC and Tom Langeberg was able to take 5th place overall. Unfortunately around midnight a problem occurred to one of the wheels and we lost valuable time. We fell back in 10th place.

In the early morning it was my turn again. The track was quite empty and the car was great. We encountered a problem with the communication system and decided to repair before the planned pitstop.

My last stint was difficult. The gearbox suffered throughout the race and we were about 200 laps in front of 3rd place. So we decided to wait until the finish to go back on track and finished the race in 2nd position in GTC class and 9th place overall!

It was a good weekend: a top team and it was nice working with the other drivers! What a pity we lost the Speedlover/Accent Racing Porsche early in the race due to a spectacular crash and the problems we faced but that’s racing.”

TV Oost will broadcast a summary of the Zolder 24 Hours soon!
